Nice price gains today, but overall volume was down. It would be nice to see more conviction behind these price gains.

The markets closed down again, but as post in previous entries, this is expected and even welcome. During September, the markets had a good run and now need some deserved rest. This is necessary if it is to shoot higher, and help setup new buy points in already extended leading stocks. But the question is, will it really shoot higher or decide to turn around and correct? Only the market knows.

2007-2010 have been one of the most difficult investment periods in history, putting even the best timing models to shame. So how did IBD’s Big Picture section hold up during this period? Take a look for your self. This is a chart of the SPY (SPDR S&P 500 ETF) I programmed with each Gold colored band representing Correction periods, and the White background areas representing Rally periods. Using eIBD’s achieves, I was able to go through every Big Picture article for the past 5 years to record each period change.
